Caoling Historic Trail: Taipei to Coast — 1 Day

A 7+ km coastal hike from Yuanwangkeng to Dali through forest, grassland, and Yilan County's northeast shoreline

The Caoling Historic Trail runs eastward from Yuanwangkeng Riverside Park toward Taiwan's northeast coast, following a well-established route through dense forest and open grassland with minimal elevation gain. The trail is suitable for hikers of most abilities, with regular rest spots and views across the Pacific. The route ends at Dali Visitor Center, where local food vendors and a temple offer a chance to pause before the return drive to Taipei. On clear days, Turtle Island appears on the horizon off the Yilan coast. Time and group fitness permitting, a side excursion onto the Taoyuan Valley Trail extends the experience across higher grasslands overlooking the rugged coastline. Private transportation departs Taipei Main Station in the early morning and returns by late afternoon.
