Day by day

1Teak Forest Cycling and Sticky Waterfallteak forest region · a temple on the opposite side of the valley · the famous sticky waterfall
A morning pickup from your Chiang Mai hotel brings you to the teak forest region, where your bike is fitted and checked before departure. The day unfolds across two distinct rides, separated by a vehicle transfer. Your first cycle is a leisurely two-hour loop through the forest, punctuated by stops to observe local farming practices and the mechanics of rice cultivation. Those seeking more technical terrain can branch onto single-track jungle trails; others continue on the gentler rural roads back toward basecamp. The morning ride immerses you in the working landscape of northern Thailand. After lunch, you ride to a temple on the opposite side of the valley. The tranquil grounds and architecture invite unhurried exploration before a vehicle transfer takes you to the famous sticky waterfall. Here you can swim, wade, and rest in the mineral-rich pools—a distinctive experience unique to this region. Return to your Chiang Mai hotel by bike or vehicle, depending on your preference. Dinner is at the hotel. The day totals 30–40 kilometers on mostly flat terrain with undulating off-road sections.
2Chiang Dao Uplands and Cave ExplorationChiang Dao · Doi Luang Chiang Dao · Chiang Dao Caves · a local restaurant · small country lanes · a regional market · your hotel in Chiang Dao
A morning vehicle transfer brings you to Chiang Dao, where forestry trails begin along the base of Doi Luang Chiang Dao. Rural roads lead into undulating terrain beneath the peak. Time is spent in the Chiang Dao Caves, examining the limestone formations and local history. Lunch at a local restaurant follows, and the afternoon ride passes through small country lanes to a regional market, where you can observe daily commerce and local life. The final stretch returns you to your hotel in Chiang Dao. This stage covers 30–40 kilometers over undulating hills with an optional off-road section.
3Thaton: The 70-Kilometer Hill Road Crossinga local temple · paved roads · Ban Thaton · a local restaurant
A morning vehicle transfer bypasses busy main roads. The ride begins at a local temple, then moves onto paved roads that undulate through countryside toward Ban Thaton, a small settlement positioned on the Burmese border along the Maekok River. A lunch stop at a local restaurant breaks the day's primary effort. The afternoon continues on paved roads through increasingly quiet hill country; the final section can be completed by vehicle if preferred. Today's distance is 70 kilometers or more, all on tarmac, with significant elevation change.
4Maekok River Valley to Chiang RaiMaekok River · Chiang Rai · villages and plantations · riverside village · Karen settlements · local restaurant · Maekok River valley floor
After breakfast, riding begins alongside the Maekok River through its valley floor. Off-road trails wind past villages and plantations. Midway through the day, a long-tail boat carries you and the bikes downstream for approximately 20 minutes, connecting sections of the route that would otherwise require backtracking. You disembark at a riverside village and continue riding through Karen settlements toward Chiang Rai. A lunch stop at a local restaurant provides rest before the final approach into town. The evening is unscheduled; a night market or traditional Thai massage are common independent options. This stage covers 40 kilometers or more on undulating terrain with several off-road sections.
5Chiang Rai's Temples and Museums Before DepartureWhite Temple (Wat Rong Khun) · Ban Dam Museum · Chiang Rai Airport · Guang Yin temple
After breakfast, a guided tour takes you through three of Chiang Rai's most compelling sites. Begin at the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), where contemporary architecture and intricate design work create an striking visual experience. Next, visit a Chinese temple to see the impressive Guang Yin goddess statue overlooking the valley—a noteworthy photo opportunity. The Ban Dam Museum completes your morning, showcasing a distinctive blend of traditional and modern art created by a local artist within a thoughtfully designed space. These three stops offer a cultural snapshot of the region's artistic heritage. Following your sightseeing, you'll be transferred to Chiang Rai Airport for your direct flight to Bangkok.
