Deosai Plains: High-Altitude Trek & Alpine Wilderness — 7 Days
A week on one of the world's highest plateaus at 4,114 meters, trekking across alpine meadows to Sheosar Lake and camping under open sky in search of Himalayan brown bears.
Deosai National Park sits at an average elevation of 4,114 meters (13,497 feet), making it one of the world's highest plateaus and home to a distinct alpine ecosystem. The landscape shifts dramatically with season: summer brings meadows of wildflowers against snow-capped peaks; winter renders it largely inaccessible. Wildlife here includes marmots, golden eagles, and a small population of Himalayan brown bears, one of the world's most endangered carnivores. The expedition involves camping on the open plains, trekking to viewpoints and Sheosar Lake (itself among the world's highest lakes), and moving between Islamabad, Skardu, and the plateau itself via road and, weather permitting, flight. This is a wilderness experience at significant altitude; acclimatization and fitness are prerequisites.
