Great Wall: Huanghuacheng to Xishuiyu — 2 Days
Two sections of the Great Wall north of Beijing, connected by a night at a local farmer's guesthouse; hiking across sections cut by reservoirs and watchtower views.
This two-day hike strings together two distinct sections of the Great Wall within two hours of Beijing. Day one follows the Huanghuacheng section—a moderate three-hour walk along restored and ruined wall—before descending to the village of Xishuiyu for the night. Day two climbs the Xishuiyu section itself, a four- to five-hour hike that crosses a reservoir and ascends to a watchtower overlooking the water below. The descent follows a narrow stone path, often slick after rain. Accommodation is in a local farmer's guesthouse; meals are shared with your guide and the family who runs the house. Transportation is by private vehicle from Beijing.
