Great Wall Trek: Gubeikou to Jinshanling — 5 Days

[subtitle] "Hike Ming Dynasty fortifications across three sections—Wohushan, Jinshanling, and Simatai—with nights in village guesthouses."

This five-day trek covers three distinct sections of the Great Wall northeast of Beijing, each built or reinforced during the Ming Dynasty and each presenting different states of preservation and terrain. [summary] "Days begin with transfers from Beijing to the Wohushan section, then progress to the Jinshanling area, where brick-and-stone construction remains visible despite 1950s-era removals by local farmers." The route then extends to Simatai before returning to Jinshanling for the final night. Daily hiking ranges from 3 to 12 kilometers, with cumulative elevation gains of 539 to 890 meters per day. Accommodation is provided in family-run guesthouses in surrounding villages, with meals taken at local restaurants or prepared by host families. An English-speaking guide accompanies the group throughout. This itinerary suits hikers with moderate fitness and an interest in Ming Dynasty military architecture, village life, and backcountry conditions.
