Great Wall Trek: Shanhaiguan to Beijing — 8 Days

Walk the wall from coast to capital, hiking wild and restored sections across 300 kilometers of Hebei and Tianjin, ending in Beijing's Forbidden City.

This eight-day journey traces the Great Wall from its eastern terminus at Shanhaiguan, where the fortification meets the Bohai Sea, inland across the Yanshan Mountains to Beijing. The route alternates between heavily restored wall sections near the coast—including the famous "Number One Gate Under Heaven"—and remote, unrepaired stretches in the interior. You'll hike Jiaoshan's steep terrain above sea cliffs, boat across the submerged sections of Panjiakou Reservoir, walk forest trails to riverside walls at Luowenyu, and spend a night in a farmer's guest house near Jinshanling before returning to the capital. The trip begins and ends in Beijing, with time in the Forbidden City and Jingshan Park before and after the wall sections. Accommodations mix four-star hotels in cities with a two-night homestay on the wall itself.
