Iriomote: Yutsun Waterfall Trek with Outdoor Cooking — 6 Hours
A full-day trek through Iriomote's subtropical forest to a three-tiered waterfall, including traditional Okinawan noodle preparation at the summit.
This six-hour trek traverses the tropical interior of Iriomote Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Japan's southernmost prefecture. The route climbs through dense subtropical forest, crosses stream beds and boulder fields, and arrives at Yutsun Waterfall, a three-stage cascade set in a natural basin. The excursion includes an outdoor cooking session at the waterfall's summit, where guides prepare traditional Okinawan noodles using local vegetables and locally sourced stock — a practical demonstration of regional food culture rather than a restaurant experience. The descent follows the same forest trail back to the starting point. Pickup and drop-off from island accommodation or Uehara Port (for day-trip visitors from Ishigaki) are included, along with private guiding in English and all necessary trekking equipment.
