Ladakh by E-Bicycle: Leh to Siachen — 9 Days

E-cycling across high-altitude terrain from Leh through Warila Top and Siachen Base Camp, covering daily stages.

This nine-day e-cycling route traces the Indus and Nubra valleys of eastern Ladakh, beginning in Leh and moving progressively north through high-altitude passes toward the Siachen region. Electric bicycles reduce the physical demand of cycling at altitude while maintaining full exposure to the landscape: desert plateaus, river gorges, mountain settlements, and the approach to one of the world's highest military outposts. The itinerary climbs above 17,000 feet, transits through villages including Thiksay, Sakti, Agham, Panamik, and Sumur, and concludes with a crossing of Khardung La pass en route back to Leh. Accommodation spans established hotels in Leh and homestays in smaller settlements; a support vehicle travels with the group, and an expedition leader manages pacing and logistics throughout.

Visit Old Leh and its bazaar on foot. Collect e-bicycles in the afternoon and ride around Stok to acclimate.

3Stok to Sakti via ThiksaySakti · Indus Valley · Thiksay Monastery

A 48-kilometer ride through the Indus Valley, passing Thiksay Monastery en route to Sakti. Overnight stay in Sakti.

4Sakti to Agham via Warila Top — 60 kmSakti to Agham via Warila Top · Agham · Warila Top

This 60-kilometer stage ascends to Warila Top at 17,400 feet, the expedition's highest pass. The route crosses semi-desert terrain with minimal settlements between the start and the summit, then descends into the Nubra drainage toward Agham. Overnight accommodation is in Agham.

A 74-kilometer drive north through the lower Nubra Valley leads to Panamik. Overnight in Panamik.

6Day Trip to Siachen Base Camp — 80 km Round TripSiachen Base Camp · Panamik · Sumur

This stage departs Panamik and travels 80 kilometers (round trip) northeastward to Siachen Base Camp, the supply and logistics hub for India's military presence at Siachen Glacier. The route returns to the lower Nubra Valley, with overnight accommodation in Sumur.

7Sumur to Khardung — 50 kmSumur to Khardung · Khardung

The route moves 50 kilometers from Sumur southeastward through the Nubra Valley, passing through Hunder en route to Khardung. The settlement sits at the foot of Khardung La pass. Overnight accommodation is in Khardung.

8Khardung to Leh via Khardung La Pass — 74 kmKhardung · Leh · Khardung La

The final cycling stage covers 74 kilometers from Khardung, climbing Khardung La and descending to Leh. Overnight accommodation returns to Leh.
