Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng by Bike — 4 Days

Mekong crossing, farmland, and limestone valleys by gravel and dirt road

This four-day cycling route crosses northern Laos from Luang Prabang southward to Vang Vieng via quiet farm roads, gravel tracks, and narrow valley paths. After a boat crossing of the Mekong to Chomphet, the first stage runs 50 kilometers through villages and rice fields to a working farmstead. Day two moves south toward Vang Vieng, stopping at Kuang Si Falls—a series of tiered turquoise pools nested in forest—and the Lao Buffalo Dairy before taking the train into town. Days three and four circle Vang Vieng's limestone karst on easier gravel roads, with stops at the three Blue Lagoons and a float through Tham Cham Cave. The route mixes swimming, riding, and rest in roughly equal measure, connecting rural Laos on a human scale rather than moving through it quickly.
