319 kilometres through coffee plantations, mountain villages, and Buddhist temples from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai, with e-bike assistance and van support

This seven-day cycling journey covers 319 kilometres across Northern Thailand's hill-station terrain, moving south from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai through coffee and tea plantations, rural villages, and National Park landscapes. The route combines pedal-assisted riding on undulating forest roads with longtail boat sections on the Kok River and van transfers through steeper mountain passes. Daily distances range from 23 to 66 kilometres. Stops include Wat Rong Khun (the White Temple), Akha Mino Roastery, Araksa Tea Plantation, and a hands-on cooking class in Chiang Mai. The itinerary balances active cycling days with cultural visits, market experiences, and meals at local restaurants. Small-group pacing allows adjustment of e-bike assist levels to match individual fitness and terrain preference.

Day by day

1Chiang Rai Loop Ride, Night Bazaar & Welcome DinnerNight Bazaar · Kok River · local pineapple market · Wat Pong Na Kham
Sawasdee to Chiang Rai. Your Local Tour Leader arrives with a bike reserved in your name and introductions to the small group you'll be riding with over the coming days. The morning unfolds as a gentle 29-kilometre loop along the Kok River, easing you into the rhythm of northern Thailand. The route winds through countryside on paved roads—tea and coffee plantations rolling across the hills, farmers harvesting by hand in the paddies, water buffalo grazing in fields. This is a warm-up ride, not a hammer, designed to settle jet lag and let you read the landscape. A stop at the local pineapple market reveals the velocity of regional trade. Produce moves quickly here; vendors know their buyers, and the best stock shifts fast. It's a working market serving local distribution networks. Wat Pong Na Kham comes next—a temple set deliberately away from the main tourist circuit. It's peaceful and photogenic, a natural pause before rolling back into town. The afternoon is unscheduled. Rest by the pool, book a massage, or wander the town at your own pace. Evening brings the group together for your first dinner at a local restaurant, followed by a stroll through the Night Bazaar. Lanterns glow above stalls of local arts and crafts. Street food vendors operate throughout. This is Chiang Rai after dark—unhurried and accessible.
2White Temple and Coffee Roastery by Bikecity streets into rural terrain · Wat Rong Khun · Akha Mino Roastery · hotel
A 51-kilometre ride on quiet paved backroads takes us from city streets into rural terrain. We pedal through agricultural areas before reaching Wat Rong Khun—the White Temple. Built in 1997 by Buddhist artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, this white temple features plaster and mirror mosaics. Interior murals include contemporary imagery. After lunch, we pause the ride and visit Akha Mino Roastery, a locally-run café. The beans are grown by farming communities in nearby highland regions, and the roastery's founder walks us through the entire process—from hand-picking the cherries to the roasting techniques. We taste the finished coffee. With the bikes rested, we take a van back to the hotel. The afternoon is yours to unwind—stretching by the pool, nursing an iced coffee, or resting. Dinner awaits at the hotel.
3Kok River Boat, Rural Cycling & Mountain Roads to Chiang DaoKok River · Chiang Dao · Bha Tai Pier · Tha Ton · local spot · local restaurant
We start with a van transfer to Bha Tai Pier, where a longtail boat takes us upriver on the Kok River—a perspective on misty jungle hills, riverside villages, and the region's geography. The water journey winds through forested valleys and past settlements on the river corridor. At Tha Ton, we trade the boat for bicycles and head into rural riding on paved secondary roads. Winding routes through green terrain take us past agricultural areas and small settlements. It's quiet cycling—the kind of road environment you don't get near cities. Lunch lands at a local spot your Tour Leader knows well, where the menu reflects regional cooking. After refueling, we climb back into the van for a back road drive through the hills to Chiang Dao, a mountain town. The route offers views across forested landscape. As the sun sets, we settle into a farm-to-fork dinner at a local restaurant—best enjoyed with an ice-cold Chang beer and the company we've earned today. Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner
4Araksa Tea Plantation & Mae Taeng Valley Ride to Mae RimAraksa Tea Plantation · Mae Taeng Valley · mountain retreat
A van transfer climbs into the highlands, arriving at Araksa Tea Plantation where hand-harvested leaves and tea production define the craft. You'll learn about the tea-making process and taste tea before heading out on bikes. Then comes the ride itself: 64 kilometres through Mae Taeng Valley on paved roads that wind through forested hills with rolling terrain, sustained climbs, and descents. Terrain elevation rises and falls throughout. E-bike pedal-assist lets you dial the help up or down—test your legs on the climbs, or cruise with assistance. The support van travels alongside the route with snacks and is ready to scoop you up if needed. After the ride, a comfortable transfer carries you to your mountain retreat. Here, cool off in the two-storey swimming pool, challenge fellow cyclists to archery, or treat yourself to a foot massage. Dinner showcases Northern Thai regional cuisine. Expect Khao Soi—a signature regional dish—Chiang Mai sausage served with sticky rice, or grilled meats prepared with mountain herbs. Everything is fresh and local. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
5Downhill Ride to the Ping River and Northern Thai Cooking Classforested hills toward the Ping River · Chiang Mai
After days of climbing and sustained elevation gain, today the terrain descends. The 48-kilometre route goes downhill through lush forested hills toward the Ping River, the region's primary waterway. Road surfaces are paved; terrain transitions from downhill to gently flat as we approach the river valley. The ride winds past shaded trees, local farms, and quiet secondary roads. We arrive in Chiang Mai, the cultural centre of the north, mid-afternoon. Here we trade our bikes for a local kitchen. Under the guidance of a local chef, we prepare Northern Thai classics—curries, stir-fried vegetables, noodle dishes, and regional specialities. The meal we prepare becomes our evening feast.
6Botanical Garden, Countryside Ride, and Chiang Mai Food TourChiang Mai · countryside surrounding Chiang Mai · a botanical garden · the hotel · local markets, street vendors, and restaurants
The 40-kilometre ride weaves through countryside surrounding Chiang Mai, passing temples, villages, and rolling terrain with moderate hill sections. A stop at a botanical garden features flowering plants and landscaped grounds. After cycling, a van transfer reaches the hotel by mid-afternoon, leaving time for rest and swimming. The final evening includes a walking food tour through Chiang Mai, where the group visits local markets, street vendors, and restaurants. The tour visits regional specialties and includes conversation with local food vendors and market sellers. Dinner consumed during the walking tour.
7Doi Suthep Summit Ride & FarewellsDoi Suthep · Doi Suthep summit · Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep · Chiang Mai town
The final day climbs toward Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai's mountain. After breakfast, the ride ascends via paved road with e-bike pedal-assist supporting the steeper pitches. Multiple scenic rest stops punctuate the journey, allowing time to recover and take in the expanding views across the valley below. At the summit sits Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, a gold-covered temple where prayer bells chime in the breeze. The chedi (reliquary) dominates the hilltop; the vista stretches across Chiang Mai for kilometres in every direction. Mountain-grown coffee pairs with the moment. The descent returns by van, allowing legs to rest. Back in town, there's time for a final gathering with the Tour Leader and cycling crew—a chance to reflect on the ride, the mountains, and Northern Thailand. Though the tour concludes here, the experience remains.
