Rappel waterfalls and trek jungle streams in UNESCO-designated Yanbaru, Northern Okinawa
Canyoning in Okinawa's Yanbaru National Park combines river trekking, waterfall rappelling, and stream navigation through the forest canopy of Japan's northernmost region. Guides trained in river safety and white-water techniques lead groups of intermediate to advanced ability through canyon descents, natural pools, and cliff jumps. Equipment—wetsuit, life jacket, helmet, harness, and specialized shoes—is provided. Half-day sessions run 3–4 hours total; full-day sessions span 8–10 hours with locally prepared lunch. Bilingual guides document the day with waterproof camera footage, included as part of the service.

Hotel pickup in Northern Okinawa leads to the meeting point, where you're fitted with wetsuits, life jackets, helmets, and harnesses. The group enters the Yanbaru canyon system, trekking upstream through jungle terrain before descending past waterfalls and cliff faces using rope techniques and abseiling. Depending on conditions, cliff jumps may be included. Throughout, a bilingual guide (Japanese/English) leads you through the forest ecosystem. Full-day tours include a locally made lunch box; half-day tours offer snacks and beverages. Waterproof camera footage is provided after the tour.
