Pingyao Ancient City: Wang Family Compound & Old Town — Day Trip from Xi'an

Depart Xi'an by bullet train to Pingyao, arriving mid-morning. Upon arrival, transfer to the Wang Family Compound, a residence constructed between 1762 and 1811 that stands as both a record of Qing-era domestic architecture and a museum. The compound contains hundreds of rooms organized around courtyards where stone, wood, and brick sculptures appear throughout. The Painting and Calligraphy Hall holds works on silk and paper; the Treasure Hall displays furnishings, old coins, porcelain, rare stones, and jade carvings accumulated by the Wang family over centuries. In the afternoon, enter the Pingyao Old Town, a walled city founded during the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046–771 BC) and rebuilt in 1370.
