Rajasthan by Bicycle: Udaipur to Jaipur — 11 Days

A supported cycling route through western Rajasthan, covering Kumbhalgarh, Ranakpur, Jodhpur, and Pushkar over 11 days

This 11-day supported cycling journey traces a west-to-east arc across Rajasthan, beginning in Udaipur and ending in Jaipur. The route moves through terrain that shifts from the foothills of the Aravalli Range — with rough, hilly tracks and gentle uphill gradients — to the semi-arid plains approaching Jodhpur and the agricultural villages north of Pushkar. Daily distances combine cycling and motorized transfer, with cycling stages ranging from roughly 25 to 40 kilometers per day. Key stopping points include Kumbhalgarh Fort, whose 15th-century perimeter wall stretches approximately 36 kilometers — regarded as the second longest fortification wall in the world — and the Jain temple complex at Ranakpur, notable for its intricately carved marble columns. Accommodation varies across the route: a jungle lodge at Ghanerao, tented camps at Godwad, a heritage resort at Bhenswara, and the historically significant Fort Chanwa at Luni. The route through the Salawas forest zone offers the possibility of spotting spotted deer, antelope, and black buck; a jeep safari near Luni holds the chance of a leopard sighting. The journey concludes with a cycling stage to Roopangarh before a motorized transfer into Jaipur.

Best time to go: October to March

Day by day

0Travel Day: Delhi to UdaipurDelhi to Udaipur · Udaipur · hotel in Udaipur
This travel day is not counted within the 11-day cycling itinerary. Participants travel from Delhi to Udaipur — approximately 688 km — to meet the rest of the bicycling team. On arrival, the group assembles for an orientation walk of Udaipur at a self-directed pace. In the evening, an introductory briefing covers route logistics, daily distances, terrain expectations, and safety protocols. Participants are introduced to their bicycles and the lead cycling guide. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Udaipur.
1Udaipur: Bike Fitting, Route Briefing, and City OrientationUdaipur · Lake Pichola · City Palace complex · old city lanes
The first day of the 11-day itinerary is based in Udaipur and dedicated to preparation. Morning bike fitting and mechanical checks are conducted with the support crew. A detailed briefing covers the full route from Udaipur to Jaipur, including daily cycling and transfer distances, road and track surfaces, altitude changes, and weather considerations relevant to the time of year. The afternoon includes a guided orientation of Udaipur's central areas — Lake Pichola, the City Palace complex, and the old city lanes — on foot. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
2Udaipur to Kumbhalgarh: Aravalli Foothills and the Fort WallUdaipur to Kumbhalgarh · Kumbhalgarh · Kumbhalgarh Fort
Cycling distance: approx. 35 km | Transfer: approx. 40 km | Surface: paved roads with moderate inclines and some unpaved sections After breakfast, the first cycling stage heads north from Udaipur through the Aravalli foothills. The terrain involves steady uphill gradients for the first section before the route flattens. The remaining 40 km to Kumbhalgarh are covered by support vehicle. On arrival, the group checks into the hotel before visiting Kumbhalgarh Fort. Built in the 15th century under Rana Kumbha, the fort is enclosed by a perimeter wall approximately 36 km in length — frequently cited as the second longest continuous wall in the world, though this claim is contested in some historical sources. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Kumbhalgarh.
3Kumbhalgarh to Ghanerao via RanakpurKumbhalgarh to Ghanerao via Ranakpur · Ranakpur · Ranakpur village · Ghanerao Jungle Lodge
Cycling distance: approx. 35 km | Transfer: approx. 40 km | Surface: mountain roads and village tracks with rolling gradients The route from Kumbhalgarh passes through mountainous terrain and small settlements on the way to Ranakpur. After the cycling stage, the group transfers by vehicle for the remaining distance. At Ranakpur, a visit to the Jain temple complex — dedicated to Lord Adinath and constructed in white marble with carved pillared halls — is included. Built in the 15th century, the main temple is noted for its remarkable architecture and intricate carvings on the walls. Lunch is taken in Ranakpur village. The group then continues by vehicle to Ghanerao Jungle Lodge, the overnight accommodation. Dinner is served at the lodge.
4Ghanerao to Godwad Camps via Mithdi DamGodwad Camps · Mithdi Dam · Aravalli foothills
Cycling distance: approx. 30 km | Transfer: approx. 15 km | Surface: rough tracks and hilly unpaved terrain After breakfast, the cycling stage descends from the Aravalli foothills toward Mithdi Dam, a reservoir situated at the base of the range. The tracks on this stage are rough and uneven; a mountain bike or hybrid with appropriate tyre clearance is recommended. The support vehicle covers the final 15 km to Godwad Camps, where the group stays overnight in tents. Riders should pack layers, as temperatures at the camp can drop significantly after dark depending on the season. Dinner is provided at camp.
5Godwad Camps to Bhenswara: Rural Tracks and Korta VillageGodwad Camps to Bhenswara · Bhenswara
Cycling distance: approx. 40 km | Transfer: approx. 12 km | Surface: rough and uneven dirt tracks, sandy sections The longest cycling stage of the tour departs camp after breakfast and follows rough rural tracks toward Bhenswara, passing through the village of Korta. The terrain is predominantly flat to gently undulating but the track surface is loose and requires steady bike handling. The final 12 km are covered by vehicle. The group stays overnight at a heritage property owned by a local chief in the Bhenswara area. Dinner and overnight stay are included.
6Bhenswara to Luni: Pastoral Landscape and the Rebari CommunityBhenswara to Luni · Luni · surrounding scrub-forest · Fort Chanwa
Cycling distance: approx. 40 km | Transfer: approx. 20 km | Surface: gravel and packed dirt tracks After breakfast, the route heads north toward Luni through pastoral terrain. On arrival, there is an opportunity to meet members of the Rebari community — a traditionally nomadic shepherd group whose livelihoods centre on livestock herding. An optional jeep safari in the surrounding scrub-forest may be arranged; leopard activity has been recorded in this area but sightings are not guaranteed and depend on conditions at the time. The group stays overnight at Fort Chanwa, a heritage property in Luni dating to the early 20th century. Dinner is served at the fort.

Sightings are possible but not guaranteed. The group arrives in Jodhpur — known historically as the Sun City for the blue-washed buildings in the old quarter — by early to mid-afternoon and transfers to the hotel. An optional visit to Mehrangarh Fort is available; the structure dates to the 15th century and overlooks the city of Jodhpur. A guided walk through part of the old city is also included. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Conditions and sightings will vary. On arrival in Sathin, the group checks into the hotel. Sathin Garh, a historical fortified structure in the area, is available for independent visits. The town contains one of a small number of temples in India dedicated to Lord Brahma, as well as Pushkar Lake, considered sacred in Hindu tradition. Pushkar is also the site of the Pushkar Ka Mela — an annual cattle and camel fair held in October or November that is one of the largest livestock fairs in India; dates shift each year according to the Hindu calendar. Participants travelling during this period should expect higher visitor volumes in the town. The group checks into the hotel, where dinner and an overnight stay are included.
