South India: Deccan Dynasties and Coastal Transition — 14 Days

From Hyderabad through the fortified kingdoms of Bidar, Bijapur, and Badami to the ruins of Hampi, Goa's colonial churches, and Mumbai's island caves.

This 14-day route traces the architectural and political legacies of South India's medieval Islamic sultanates and the Hindu Vijayanagar empire. Beginning in Hyderabad, the itinerary moves through the Deccan plateau — stopping at Bidar and Gulbarga, seats of the Bahmani dynasty; Bijapur, known for its domed monuments; and Badami, where fourth-century cave temples reveal the Chalukya period. From there, the journey descends to Hampi, the sprawling capital of the Vijayanagar empire, whose ruins occupy a vast rocky landscape. A transition west leads to Goa, where Portuguese colonial architecture and churches stand alongside Hindu temples, before concluding in Mumbai with the rock-cut sanctuaries of Elephanta Island. The route combines archaeology, religious history, and coastal landscape in a single itinerary.
