Sri Lanka: Ancient Cities, Tea Country & Coast — 9 Days

From Anuradhapura's stone monuments to Sigiriya's rock fortress and Kandy's temple district, with a train journey through the central highlands.

This nine-day itinerary moves through Sri Lanka's principal archaeological and cultural zones, beginning in the northern plains and rising into the central highlands before descending to the coast. The route connects five UNESCO World Heritage sites—Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla, and Kandy—alongside the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, and Ceylon tea plantations around Nuwara Eliya. A scenic train passage through the hill country and a wildlife safari in the Minneriya region are included. Accommodation spans colonial-era hotels and mid-range properties; an English-speaking driver-guide accompanies throughout. The itinerary balances site-based photography and cultural observation with periods of transit and transition between regions.
