This eight-day itinerary pairs coastal relaxation on Sri Lanka's northeast coast with a safari-based wildlife experience in Wilpattu National Park. The route begins in Trincomalee, where the Indian Ocean provides opportunities for snorkeling and diving among coral ecosystems, followed by a transition into the dry-zone jungle of Wilpattu, home to Sri Lankan elephants, leopards, sloth bears, and substantial populations of resident and migratory waterbirds. The journey concludes with a night in Negombo before departure. Accommodation ranges from beachside property to safari camp tents, with transfers by private vehicle throughout.

Arrival at Colombo International Airport. A driver meets guests in the arrivals lounge for a six-hour transfer to Trincomalee on Sri Lanka's northeast coast. The route traverses inland terrain before reaching the Indian Ocean. Evening check-in at Jungle Beach in Kuchchuweli, a beachside property set among tropical vegetation.

A full day at Jungle Beach. The property sits directly on the coast, with the hotel's architecture incorporating existing trees and plant life into its structure. Guests spend the day at leisure on the beach or within the resort grounds. Overnight at Jungle Beach.

3Pigeon Island Reef Snorkeling & DivingPigeon Island · Jungle Beach

An excursion to Pigeon Island, a protected marine reserve offshore from Trincomalee. The coral ecosystem supports over 100 species of tropical corals and approximately 300 species of reef fish, along with Black Tip reef sharks, rays, and sea turtles. Snorkeling and diving options allow direct observation of the underwater habitat. Return to Jungle Beach for overnight.

A two-hour transfer by private vehicle westward to Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka's largest terrestrial protected area. Guests arrive at the park entrance at noon and are driven to the safari campsite. Wilpattu's dry-zone jungle landscape is densely vegetated and dotted with approximately 30 natural freshwater lakes (locally called villus), which sustain populations of resident and migratory waterfowl including garganey, pintail, whistling teal, spoonbill, white ibis, large white egret, cattle egret, and purple heron. The park also hosts gull, tern, owl, kite, and eagle species, plus endemic species such as the Sri Lanka jungle fowl, little cormorant, and painted stork. Mammal species found in the park include Sri Lankan elephant, Sri Lankan leopard, sloth bear, spotted deer, buffalo, sambar, and mongoose. A late afternoon game drive and dinner precede overnight in a safari camp tent.
