Sri Lanka: Bird Watching Across Wetlands, Rainforest & National Parks — 10 Days

From coastal lagoons to lowland rainforest, visiting eight key birding sites across the island's western and southern regions

This 10-day bird watching itinerary moves systematically across Sri Lanka's major avian habitats, beginning in the western wetlands and concluding in the southeastern national parks. The route encompasses Anawilundawa and Nawadankulama sanctuaries — sites on the western migratory flyway — followed by the dry-zone jungles of Wilpattu and Sigiriya, the lowland rainforest near Kitulgala, and the complex wetland systems of Bundala and Yala. The trip balances early-morning birding sessions in protected reserves with daytime wildlife safaris and evening forest walks, offering opportunities to observe endemic species (such as the Chestnut-backed Owlet and Ceylon Spurfowl), resident populations, and seasonal migrants. Accommodation is provided in lodges positioned near key birding zones, and all transfers include an English-speaking guide and transport by air-conditioned vehicle.
