Sri Lanka Endemic Birds — 15 Days

Wetlands, rainforests, and national parks across the island's major birding reserves

Sri Lanka is a bird watching destination with endemic bird species distributed across distinct ecological zones from coastal lagoons to montane forests. This 15-day itinerary moves systematically through the island's primary birding sites: the RAMSAR-designated wetlands of the northwest, the dry-zone lakes and parkland of the interior, the central highlands and their botanical gardens, the wet-zone rainforests of the southwest, and the southern coastal lagoons. The route combines full-day safaris in Wilpattu and Bundala National Parks with focused walks in smaller sanctuaries and forest reserves, each chosen for reliable sightings of resident and migratory species. Accommodation ranges from small-town hotels to guest houses positioned at forest edges, and transfers between sites are timed to allow morning and afternoon birding sessions. The trip is designed around specific habitat types — open water, cultivated gardens, dry scrub, dense rainforest, and coastal marsh — where different bird assemblages congregate.
