This eight-day itinerary divides into two chapters: a four-night stay on the Kalpitiya Peninsula, where spinner dolphins and sperm whales inhabit the Indian Ocean, followed by two nights at a safari camp within Wilpattu National Park's dry-zone jungle. The route begins in Colombo, moves northwest to the coast, then inland to the park's network of natural lakes and resident wildlife, and concludes with a night in Negombo before departure. Accommodation ranges from a beachfront resort to safari tents; transfers by private vehicle with driver-guide are included throughout.

Upon arrival at Colombo International Airport, a driver-guide meets passengers in the arrival lounge and begins a three-hour road transfer northwest to Kalpitiya on the peninsula's western coast. The remainder of the day allows for settling into Bar Reef Resort and initial beach time before the first night's rest.

The day is unscheduled. Guests remain at Bar Reef Resort with access to the beach and resort facilities. A second night follows at the same accommodation.

A marine excursion from Kalpitiya targets spinner dolphins, which gather here in pods often numbering in the hundreds. The waters offshore also support sperm whales — regular sightings throughout the year — and occasional blue whales, making the peninsula a recognized location for marine mammal observation in Sri Lanka. Return to Bar Reef Resort for the night.

After breakfast, a two-hour transfer southward by road leads to Wilpattu National Park. The driver-guide and safari crew meet guests at the park entrance at midday and transport them to a safari campsite adjacent to the park boundary. Wilpattu's dry-zone jungle landscape is dense and interspersed with approximately 30 natural lakes (villus), most filled by seasonal rainfall and critical for waterbird populations. The park supports around 30 mammal species, including Sri Lankan elephants, leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer, buffalo, sambar, and mongoose. Resident bird species include garganey, pintail, whistling teal, spoonbill, white ibis, large white egrets, cattle egrets, and purple herons; gulls, terns, owls, kites, and eagles are also present, along with endemic species such as the Sri Lankan jungle fowl, little cormorant, and painted stork. Lunch is served at the campsite. An evening game drive follows, with dinner and overnight accommodation in a safari tent.

7Morning Game Drive and Transfer to NegomboSuriya Resort in Waikkal

After breakfast at camp, a final game drive precedes the three-hour transfer to Negombo. Rest tonight at Suriya Resort in Waikkal.

8Departure from ColomboSuriya Resort · Suriya Resort to Colombo International Airport

Breakfast at Suriya Resort is followed by a 30-minute transfer to Colombo International Airport for departure.
