This two-day itinerary moves from the coastal lowlands into Sri Lanka's central highlands, beginning in Kandy—the island's cultural heart—before ascending to the cooler elevations of Nuwara Eliya and the Horton Plains. The route combines temple architecture, highland tea estate terrain, a four-hour nature trail through montane forest, and a descent via whitewater rafting in the western river valleys. Ground transfers total approximately eight hours across the two days, with overnight accommodation in the hill station of Nuwara Eliya.

Your driver collects you in Colombo for a three-hour drive to Kandy, where you visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, housing one of Buddhism's most venerated relics. From here, a two-and-a-half-hour drive carries you uphill through tea plantations to Nuwara Eliya, a British-era hill station. You overnight at Glennfall Reach Hotel.
2Horton Plains Trek & Kitulgala RaftingHorton Plains National Park · Kitulgala River · Colombo
An early start leads to Horton Plains National Park, where a four-hour guided trail passes through grassland and cloud forest to Baker's Waterfall and the escarpment viewpoint known as World's End. After completing the trek and descending from the plateau, the route heads west toward Kitulgala, where whitewater rafting takes place on the Kitulgala River. The final leg is a two-and-a-half-hour transfer back to Colombo.
