Sri Lanka: Rural Lodges, Wildlife & Coastal Waters — 9 Days

Three regional bases — village farmland, national park safari, and coastal lagoon — with locally-led activities and traditional accommodation.

This nine-day trip traces a path through rural Sri Lanka's agricultural heartlands, wildlife habitat, and coastal waters, staying in three regionally distinct lodges. The first phase centers on Anamduwa, where a mud-brick eco-lodge sits beneath Paramakanda Rock Temple in the island's ancient interior plateau. Days two and three involve guided movements through village paddy fields, local workshops, and nature trails — cycling, bird watching, and temple visits occur at the visitor's own pace, guided by full-time staff. The second phase relocates to Wilpattu National Park's periphery, where two days include a dawn-to-dusk safari and river-side rest. The final three days take place at a coastal resort in Kalpitiya, with early-morning dolphin-watching tours and access to lagoon activities. Meals are prepared on-site using local ingredients and methods; accommodation throughout emphasizes regional vernacular architecture rather than international resort styling.
