Sri Lanka: Wilderness, Ancient Cities & Remote Highlands — 14 Days

From Colombo through Wilpattu's leopard country to Anuradhapura's sacred sites, the Knuckles Mountains, and the southern jungles of Buttala — 14 days with eco lodges and village homestays

This 14-day itinerary moves through Sri Lanka's lesser-traveled regions, linking wildlife habitat, archaeological sites, and isolated mountain villages. The route spans Wilpattu National Park, where leopards inhabit the dry-zone scrub; Anuradhapura's eight UNESCO-designated Buddhist sites; a highland detour to Meemure village in the Knuckles Mountains at around 1,000 meters elevation; the train journey through hill country from Kandy to Ella; and the dry-zone forests of Buttala, adjacent to Yala National Park. Accommodation shifts between locally-run eco lodges and family homestays, with guides providing interpretation of flora, fauna, and village life. The pace is deliberately unhurried, with two full days at Buttala dedicated to forest walks, wildlife observation, and what the lodge calls "doing nothing but following the natural rhythms of the jungle."
