Sri Lanka: Wildlife, Culture & Coast — 12 Days

Habarana to Galle via Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Wellawaya — jungle, temple, tea country and reef

This 12-day itinerary moves through six distinct zones of Sri Lanka, from the ancient ruins of the Cultural Triangle to the tea estates of the central highlands, a working agricultural farm on a known elephant movement route, and the coral reef off the southern coast at Galle. The route is structured around direct engagement with the country's natural and cultural environments rather than a sequence of conventional hotel stops: a village treasure hunt in Habarana, farm work alongside local growers in Wellawaya, a train descent through the hill country between Nuwara Eliya and the southern plains, and snorkeling on the Bonavista coral reef. Accommodation varies by location — eco lodge tree house in Habarana, farm stay in Wellawaya, small independently owned hotels elsewhere — and private transfers with an English-speaking driver connect each stage. Expert local guides, drawn from the communities of each respective area, accompany the activity-based portions. The itinerary is suitable for travelers with children aged six and above, and operates most reliably between November and March.
