Taiwan's Southern Rim: Indigenous Trails, Hot Springs & Coastal Wilderness — 5 Days

Jinshuiying and Alangyi trails, three hot spring hotels, and guided access to Tjuvecekadan village across southern Taiwan

This five-day journey traces two of southern Taiwan's established trekking routes—Jinshuiying National Trail and Alangyi Historic Trail—while staying in thermal spring accommodations and spending time in Tjuvecekadan, a Paiwan community of roughly 50 slate-stone structures. The itinerary pairs guided hikes through protected forest reserves with cultural exchanges led by Indigenous hosts, visits to local woodworking studios, and opportunities to understand Paiwan religious practice and cuisine. Transportation by private vehicle connects each stage, beginning and ending at Zuoying High Speed Rail Station near Kaohsiung.

Highlights

  • Guided community tour of Tjuvecekadan village with Paiwan hosts, including a meal in the settlement
  • Jinshuiying National Trail: 16 kilometers across three nature reserves with suspension bridges, endemic flora, and access to Taiwan's East Coast
  • Zhiben National Forest exploration and bathing in natural hot springs near Taitung
  • Alangyi Historic Trail hike along Taiwan's undeveloped southern coastline, led by Indigenous guide
  • Visit to Shimen Battlefield and hike to an abandoned settlement with documented historical significance to the region
  • Stays in three separate hot spring hotel properties (3-4 star)
