Sa-wat dee, welcome to Chiang Rai. Most international flights route through Bangkok before continuing north, though some travellers arrange direct connections or choose to spend extra time in the capital first. However you arrive, Chiang Rai—a peaceful northern city known for its lush landscapes and welcoming communities—is easy to reach. Upon landing, your airport transfer takes you to The Legend Chiang Rai, a stylish boutique hotel ideally positioned for exploring the city. You'll call this place home for the next three nights. Later in the afternoon, there's an optional orientation on offer. If you're feeling fresh, meet your group leader and fellow travellers for a traditional tricycle ride through the lively night market. You can sample delicious street food, browse local crafts, and begin getting a feel for the city. If your flight arrived late or you'd prefer to ease into things, head straight to the hotel, settle in, and rest before your adventure begins tomorrow.
2Bicycle Route Through Chiang Rai CountrysideChiang Rai · hotel · Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) · Wat Rong Suea Ten (Blue Temple)
A guided 25-kilometer bicycle route departs from the hotel, covering relatively flat terrain through agricultural zones surrounding Chiang Rai. After a safety briefing and bike fitting, the route passes rice paddies, fruit orchards, rubber plantations, and teak groves—a direct view of the region's agricultural economy and rural settlement patterns. The ride includes a stop at Wat Rong Khun (White Temple), known for its contemporary artistic interpretation of Buddhist iconography through shimmering mirrors and surreal sculptural elements. After lunch at a local restaurant, a private songthaew transfers the group to Wat Rong Suea Ten (Blue Temple), which features blue-and-gold exterior murals and white Buddha figures within. The evening allows time for rest, optional spa treatment, or independent exploration. A welcome dinner with the group introduces northern Thai regional cuisine.

In a hands-on Thai cooking class, you'll learn to prepare traditional regional dishes—a fiery chilli paste, comforting coconut milk soup, sweet banana dessert, and seasonal vegetable stir-fry.
