Tokyo by Bicycle: 20km Loop Through Temple, Tower & Park
A 3-hour guided ride through central Tokyo, linking historic temples, postwar landmarks, and urban parks on a single circuit.
This 20-kilometre bicycle loop departs from central Tokyo and connects a sequence of distinct urban zones on a single morning ride. The route begins at Zojoji Temple, where the Sangedatsumon gate — an Important Cultural Property built in 1622 during the Edo period — anchors the first historical stop. From there, the ride moves toward Tokyo Tower, the city's postwar symbol completed in 1958, before heading into Roppongi, where Roppongi Hills (a mixed-use complex containing a museum, observation deck, offices, hotel, cinema, retail, and restaurants) marks a contemporary architectural landmark. The path then reaches Shibuya Crossing, the high-volume pedestrian intersection at the heart of the Shibuya district, followed by a detour through a narrow back street offering contrast to the surrounding commercial density. Yoyogi Park — a large green space that once served as the athletes' village during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics — provides a midpoint respite. The route then passes through Aoyama Cemetery (notable for cherry blossom tunnels in spring and the grave of Hachiko, the famous Akita dog) and Hikawa Shrine, a wooded shrine situated within the urban core, before returning via Toranomon Hills and finishing near the starting point. The entire circuit takes approximately three hours, covers mixed urban and park terrain, and is led by a local guide. Bike, helmet, water, and insurance are included.
