Tokyo by Bicycle: Sugamo, Zoshigaya & Imperial Gardens — Half Day
A half-day cycling route through historic northern Tokyo: shopping streets, temple districts, Japanese gardens, and the Imperial Palace moat.
This half-day route cycles through the older residential and commercial quarters of central Tokyo, moving between periods and neighborhoods without rushing. The ride connects Sugamo's local shopping street — traditionally popular with older residents — to the quiet temple precincts and cemetery of Zoshigaya, two formal Japanese gardens including Korakuen (once the villa of an Edo-period feudal lord), and a circuit around the Imperial Palace moat before returning to the starting point. The route covers mixed terrain: commercial streets, temple grounds, gardens, university neighborhoods, and residential roads. Guides lead small groups; bicycles, helmets, a box lunch, and water are provided.
