9 km trail from Wulai to Jiaoxi: riverside forest, mountain stream sections, and Langyang Plains views

The Tonghou Traversing Trail crosses from New Taipei City's Wulai District into Yilan County over a single day, moving between two distinct ecosystems in under 9 kilometers. The route splits into three sections: a riverside walk through subtropical forest along the Tonghou River, a stream-level section where hikers wade through shallow water depending on conditions, and a final ridge traverse above the headwaters with views across the Langyang Plains toward the Pacific Ocean. The trail runs mostly flat with minimal elevation gain, making it accessible to intermediate hikers comfortable on uneven terrain and forest soil. A private vehicle with special forest-road permits delivers the group to the western trailhead and retrieves them at the eastern terminus, eliminating the need for a separate return journey or car spot.
