Triund Trek: McLeodganj to Alpine Meadow — 2 Days

A 9-kilometer trek from Dharamkot through oak and rhododendron forest to a 2,875-meter alpine meadow with views of the Dhauladhar Range and Kangra Valley.

The Triund Trek departs from McLeodganj, a settlement in Himachal Pradesh known as the exile residence of the Dalai Lama and home to Tibetan monasteries and prayer flags. The route starts in Dharamkot and climbs 9 kilometers through mixed forest to Triund Top, an open meadow at 2,875 meters with unobstructed views of the Dhauladhar peaks—including Mun, Rifle Horn, Arthur's Seat, and Slab—and the Kangra Valley below. The trek is accessible year-round: in winter the meadow fills with snow; in summer, alpine grass dominates. A camp is established at Triund, where overnight stays allow for stargazing in an environment largely free from city light pollution. The descent follows the same route back to Dharamkot, with the option to pass by the upper reaches of Bhagsu Waterfall on the return.

Best time to go: Throughout the year
