West Lake, Longjing Tea & Ancient Hangzhou — Private Day Tour

One day covering West Lake by boat, a working tea plantation in the hills, and Song Dynasty architecture on foot.

Hangzhou's landscape revolves around West Lake, a body of water that has anchored Chinese landscape painting and poetry for centuries. This day-long private tour moves through three distinct zones: the lake itself by boat and on foot, the Longjing tea hills that rise behind the city, and the preserved street architecture of the Song Dynasty era. You'll see how the tea that built Hangzhou's reputation is still grown and processed, walk through a working plantation, and finish in the restored merchant quarter. The guide is a local English speaker; transfers and entrance fees are included.

Highlights

  • Boat cruise across West Lake with views of gardens, hills, and historic structures
  • Flower Harbor, where peonies and seasonal blooms surround goldfish ponds
  • Working Longjing tea plantation with a one-hour hike into a bamboo forest
  • Inside a local farmer's home to observe tea cultivation and sample fresh-picked tea
  • Qinghefang Ancient Street, lined with Song Dynasty buildings, shops, and courtyards

Day by day

1West Lake, Longjing Tea Plantation & Qinghefang Ancient StreetWest Lake · Longjing Tea Plantation · Qinghefang Ancient Street · Flower Harbor · bamboo forest · farmer's restaurant
Your guide meets you at your hotel at 8 am and takes you to West Lake, where you'll board a boat for an hour-long cruise. The lake is ringed with gardens, stone pavilions, and low hills; you'll pass engraved tablets and small structures that anchor the region's long history. The boat ends at Flower Harbor, a garden complex known for its peonies and seasonal flowers, where carp and goldfish occupy the ponds—a deliberate pause in the itinerary to observe the detail of a single garden rather than move quickly onward. From there, your guide leads you to Longjing Tea Plantation in the hills south of the city. You'll visit a farmer's home to see how the tea is cultivated and dried, then sample freshly harvested leaves. A walking tour of the plantation itself shows the terraced rows and the work of picking. A one-hour hike climbs through the plantation and into a dense bamboo forest, where you'll move between the groves and small pavilions—a slower-paced moment in the rhythm of the day. Lunch is taken at a farmer's restaurant. In the afternoon, you'll walk through Qinghefang Ancient Street, the oldest commercial quarter in Hangzhou still standing. The buildings are built in the architectural style of the Song Dynasty and line alleyways and courtyards; the street today holds shops, restaurants, and other establishments alongside the original architecture. Your guide walks you through the quarter on foot. Return to your hotel by private transfer in the late afternoon.
